Operation Denim 2011
serves 194
KERRVILLE -- The Kerrville Church of Christ just completed
its annual Operation Denim Project. The mission this year was to provide jeans,
shorts and socks for 194 students in the community as they began a new school
year.
The project is funded by generous members of the church
family including contributions from some of the youngest members through the
Children’s Blessing Ministry.
The outreach benefited the community Child Protective
Services and Christian Women’s Job Corps agencies. Clothes also went to Medina
Moms and Arms of Hope's resident students on the children's home campus in
Medina.
Organizers this year were Karen Millikan, Shelley Dixon and
Livi Dixon. The team included Carolyn Wright, Candace Cain, and Phyllis Cook
who worked closely with these organizations to obtain necessary information
which Mary Pierce entered into a data base for shopping ease.
Clothing was packaged by Pat Fry, Carol Ann Donaghe and the
above volunteers.
Julie Stumbo and Sean Stumbo double-checked the packages for
accuracy. Clothing was then delivered to respective organizations.
Special thanks went to The Burkes Outlet Store - River Hills
Mall, Julie Mangum, Manager, and her helpful and courteous employees for
providing assistance and discounts whenever possible.

Bailey now serving in children's ministry
KERRVILLE -- The elders of the church here recently announced that Rene Bailey has accepted the children’s ministry coordinator position. She has been a member for several years, and took over the responsibilities in May.
Said Minister Greg Cummings, "We want KCC to be a church that meets the needs of young families. Rene is going to help us improve in achieving that goal.
"Rene will involve as many volunteer staff as possible to help in the Bible classes from nursery through fifth grade and to oversee other fellowship activities for that age group. Teaching assistants will be paired with experienced teachers for mentoring and training."
"Rene will also help other members to find the slots where they feel comfortable and want to serve. She will work with those who, rather than teach a class or help in children’s church, prefer to assist in more occasional activities such as VBS or Trunk or Treat, or with crafts and handwork preparation that can be done on their own time and in their own spaces."
"Together we will all work to touch children’s hearts with the love of God and the grace of Jesus Christ."

Celebrate with Operation Denim
KERRVILLE -- The church here holds a drive to provide school clothes to the needy in the church and community. The 2010 Operation Denim Committee, led in part by Karen Millikan and Shelley Dixon, said by way of thanks: "When members of the family of God are filled with love and compassion, a spirit of service to one another and to those with need, that family has reason to joyfully celebrate!
"With God’s help and the Spirit's guidance, $2932 was generously donated to provide assistance to 122 children, 61 girls and 61 boys on Aug. 14. As the school year began, each was outfitted with jeans, shorts and socks.
"In each phase of our Operation Denim project, the Spirit provided unselfish KCC servants. And so on Sunday, Aug. 29, we wore our denim to joyfully celebrate.
"Those benefiting from your kind generosity were Medina Moms: 30 served, Christian Women's Job Corp: 21 served, and Child Protective Services: 71 served. We acknowledge The Burkes Outlet Store, Belk and J.C. Penney for their enthusiastic help with our project. Whenever possible give your support to these local community businesses."
