Bill James

SAN ANTONIO-- William A. (Bill) James, Sr., 74, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, Dec. 28, 2010. He passed away in the intensive care unit of St. Luke's Baptist Hospital here due to complications from diabetes.

James was born in Electra on April 1, 1936, the son of Joseph Lee and Dessie Dean James. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1954 and served 20 years. He and Harriet were married in 1957. Their first son was born in Nov. of 1958 with the last arriving in July, 1970.

James will always be remembered as a devoted family man, an entrepreneur and a tireless worker. With his specialty being computer programming in the USAF, he used those skills eventually to establish BJ and Associates, now known as the "The Laptop Specialist" here in San Antonio.

The Christian News of South Texas remembers his kindness in not only helping to set up a computer for printing mailing labels, but also donating the computer, too.

He is survived by his wife Harriet of San Antonio; five sons: Bill Jr., Russell, David, Mike and Chris; five daughters-in-law--Esther, Karen, Barbara, Amy and Lisa; and eight grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Ashley, Lucas, Hannah, Stephen, Travis and Joshua.

The funeral was held at the San Saba Church of Christ on Jan. 22. In the online notice, the family said, "He passed from this life as a result of an accident during a fellowship basketball game with the children he served and other Christian servants. Danny provided us a glimpse of Heaven throughout his life. Today he gazes over the majesty of Heaven and has left us prepared to carry on his legacy."

Duggan was born on Sept. 3, 1951, in Pecos. He and his wife married in 1970 in Waco. Prior to his 1998 return, he had served at the home as development director.

Micky Bell

HOUSTON -- The Jersey Village family here mourned the loss but celebrated the life of its minister, Micky Bell recently, who died after a valiant battle against cancer. The church held a memorial service on Monday, March 22.

Said Deacon Derek Lamberth, "May we all pray for Linda and the boys and be ready to help in any way, for we are servants of God. We have confidence of where Micky is, and we find comfort in that. Let us thank God for Micky's life and the work he did here, the wonderful sermons he preached, the wonderful friend and brother he was to us all. We also thank God for Linda, Micah, Taylor, and Aaron."

Linda wrote to thank the church, and then added, "I know that your love and attention and appreciation for his efforts kept him going week after week, even on days when he did not know how he would ever be able to. He is one of the best preachers that I have ever been privileged to listen and learn from.

"His compassion and realness has always shown through. He did not stand before you to perform or to be praised as a great orator, but rather to share a lesson from God's word that he thought would be the most beneficial, not only for you but himself, at that time.

"He put much time, love, study and prayer into every word he prepared to say. To me, he exemplified what a preacher and minister truly should be."

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions to Freed-Hardeman University designated for Taylor Bell, prepaid tuition, son of Micky Bell. The contributions should be sent to Freed-Hardeman University, 158 E. Main St., Henderson, TN 38340.
