Hemphill to speak at Kerrville
KERRVILLE -- Writer Steve Hemphill will make one of his many guest appearances when he speaks at Kerrville’s Riverside Church of Christ. The talks will take place on Monday and Tuesday, July 11-12 beginning at 6:15 p.m. and will be followed by coffee and pie fellowship.
The public is invited to hear this church leader who is dedicated to writing, speaking, and “getting others truly excited about heaven.” Hemphill’s book "My Search for the Real Heaven," has become a popular seller because of its unique Bible-based evaluation of eternity.
He comments that the book is the result of research, analysis, meditation, and delving into the Bible, trying to glean “every tidbit about heaven that I could find.” This text is the result of the culmination of more than five years of studying, meditating, and cross-referencing biblical texts and sources.
The book is available on Amazon in electronic and paperback formats.
Hailing from central Texas, Hemphill went to a Christian college and now lives in Longview. He travels all over the United States speaking about Real Heaven. The Riverside Church of Christ meets at 625 Harper Road here.
Riverside youths prepare for LTC and Dry Bones
Kerrville – Youth Minister Steven Adair has been helping the Riverside Church of Christ young people get ready for a couple of activities coming up soon.
Thirteen young people participated in the 2011 Leadership Training for Christ competition in Houston on the weekend of April 22-23. The team of Tatum Ahrens, Allie Boerner, Katy Boerner, Jessie B. Bolton, Jonathan Kemp, Samantha Kemp, Bode McKay, Brooke Scheidle, Garrett Schroeder, Hannah Schroeder, Alayna Stanley, Cody Swanner and Jacob Woods entered more than seventy events.
The Central Texas LTC Theme for 2011 was “Coming Soon” taken from Revelation 22:12. The students competed in Service Challenge, Puppets, Signing for the Deaf, Bible Bowl, Teaching Challenge, Christian Art, Bible Reading Challenge, Bulletin Board, and Scrapbook.
An active group, the church’s young people are also planning a special mission trip to Denver, Colo. While serving with the Dry Bones Ministry, they will reach out to self-proclaimed street kids where they are, in the streets.
Riverside’s teens will work to build relationships with the Denver youths, learning how to meet their spiritual and physical needs. Riverside was among the few groups selected to attend July 24-31, out of the fifty or so churches that applied to serve with this program.
