Curry serves Lackland Terrace young people
SAN ANTONIO -- The elders at Lackland Terrace recently asked Bryon Curry to consider the position of youth minister and he gladly accepted the position. He began work on June 1.
Explaining the church's vision for Curry's work, Minister Joe Canales said, "The elders of Lackland Terrace believe that the survival of this congregation beyond 2040 depends on our ability to bring young families into our body over the next couple of decades. In order to accomplish this goal, Christian teaching, guidance and activities for children of young families is a must."
Born in Saginaw, Mich., Curry was the third child to join Percy and Priscilla Curry's family. Orum Trone, Jr., baptized him and he was added to the body of Christ on February 12, 1986.
Curry enlisted in the United States Air Force right out of high school and served for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Master Sergeant in July 2010.
Curry married his wife Margaret in 2004 and they moved to San Antonio in 2005. The couple fell in love with the congregation at Lackland Terrace after just one visit and has attended ever since.
They have made a home here with their three children, DeAnna, DeNene and Elijah. Curry is proud to say he was blessed to have baptized all three of his children.
He holds five college degrees all achieved within the last five years: three Associate's degrees in Logistics, Human Resources and instructing from the Community College of the Air Force, plus one Associate and one Bachelor's degree in Management from Park University.
Curry has served as a deacon at Lackland Terrace in 2008 and has taught the Wednesday night adult Bible class while overseeing the visitation and evangelism ministries. Additionally, he has been a participant in the Lackland AFB ministry preaching and teaching Bible studies for basic trainees since 2006.
