Church prepares holiday outreaches

SOUTH TEXAS --  The church members in the region begin early to reach out to others during the holidays. Some serve Thanksgiving meals in the building or alongside community efforts. For Christmas outreach, some have Angel Trees that list the gift wishes of the children whose parents are in prison. The members buy the gifts so that no prisoner's child goes without.

Several, like Northwest in San Antonio, enclose necessities in shoe boxes. In December, they are taken to areas like the Valley and Central American countries and distributed. Tables like this one are set up at Northwest and other churches, signaling that the gathering has begun.

Candylanders win Trunk or treat event

SAN ANTONIO -- The Northwest Church of Christ hosted its annual Trunk or Treat on Oct. 30. A record-breaking crowd roamed from trunk to trunk among cars parked on the building's parking lot.

Some members of the church served hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks. Others monitored inflatable games, directed a glow in the dark experience, painted faces, took photographs, shot treats out of an air cannon and gave away a lot of candy.

Many wonderfully decorated vehicles lined the parking lot. The Charles Freeman family host a football-themed trunk. Tacker and Craven, pictured in the photo, won the trunk decorating contest.

Also on hand were members of the San Antonio Fire Department, Classic Street Nights and Helotes Corvettes. Marvin Bryant is the local preacher.

Divorce Care

Divorce is prevalent in society and in our churches.  Most of us realize Christian people experience divorce; we all need God’s grace and forgiveness.  Just as important, we need acceptance, grace, and forgiveness from the church.  No Christian would argue that divorce is a good thing, yet every Christian has been touched by divorce, either by family or personal experience.  Every person experiencing divorce or its aftermath needs to be cared for spiritually and emotionally.

That’s where DivorceCare comes in.  DivorceCare is a friendly, caring group of people who will walk alongside you through one of life’s most difficult experiences.  Don’t go through separation or divorce alone.

NorthWest Church of Christ will be sponsoring a 13 week DivorceCare recovery group starting Friday night, September 10 at 7:30 p.m.  Child care will be provided.  For more information visit the web site at www.divorcecare.com.  To register, call the church office at 210-688-3002 or email at office@nwchurch.us.

DivorceCare support groups are led by people who understand what you are going through and want to help.  Trained facilitators will guide each group.  Ministers from NorthWest church and licensed counselors for the NorthWest Counseling Center will be available to help you navigate these troubled waters.  You’ll gain access to valuable DivorceCare resources to help you deal with the pain of the past and look forward to rebuilding your life.
