Area churches reach out with VBS

SOUTH TEXAS -- Godwerkus, the Son and His Kingdom and the SonRock are among the logos being prepared for use at the vacation Bible schools planned for children in this region during the summer. Churches are busy getting ready to serve and reach out to students through this time-honored ministry.

Among the many regional congregations planning a vacation Bible school this year, the Northside Church of Christ hosts "Godzwerkus: Circus School" vacation Bible school on June 29 - July 2 from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Classes will be provided for children who are two years old by March 1 through students who have completed the fourth grade. T-shirts will be available for purchase on a first-come, first-served basis.

Northside is located at 16318 San Pedro in the north central side of the city. For more information, contact Tina Wharton at (210) 494-1907.

The Kerrville church's Education and Family Life Minister Eddie Matthews reports that for area  students, VBS will be a four-day, fun-packed, Bible-learning experience. Coordinators Amanda Garrett and Rene Bailey have planned classes for children aged four through fifth grade in the fall on the theme, "Kingdom of the Son."

Students will join in on a Prayer Safari. They will also learn the Lord’s Prayer and better understand how God listens, provides, forgives, protects, and rules in believers' lives.

A special event on Wednesday night will extend the outreach. The church will invite the families of the children and the congregation to attend a special presentation.

Those signing up early will get a free VBS t-shirt. Others will be given one if extras are available.

The sessions will be held in July on a TBA-date due to scheduling conflicts. The church number is (830) 257-1900.

The Norton Street church in Corpus Christi will host the Family Vacation Bible School on June 7-10. According to Minister Edilfonso Rodriguez, the lessons will focus on Jesus' birth, resurrection and the establishment of the church. The church number is (361) 855-1195.

Under the leadership of Deacon Melvin Keilers of the education ministry, Lackland Terrace in San Antonio will be hosting vacation Bible school from Monday through Wednesday, June 22-24. The theme is "SonRock Kids Camp."

The school will be held each evening from 6:30 to 8:30. For more info, please call Kim Hawkins at the church office, (210) 674-6417 or send an email to kim@ltcoc.org.
