Sharing Good News. . by Philip Vick

I went out on a boat with my wife Donna and her parents today. We rode the waters of Lake Conroe for a while and Donna's father and I fished briefly with no success.

There we were on a boat with a depth finder using recommended lures fishing for bass. We had the capability to go where the fish were located. When we returned to the dock a man and his wife were fishing in the boat slip we were moored in earlier. They had caught 2 big bass right there where we had left to go find fish. How ironic is that?

I was reflecting on this experience and realized that we are much like that when we search for the Light of the World, our great God.

Elijah, the great prophet of God, was disgusted with his people and he feared they would take his life. He ran to the mountains to hide and God spoke to him. But it wasn't in the way Elijah thought he might speak nor in the way many of us would think. " The LORD said, 'Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.' Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, 'What are you doing here, Elijah?'" (1 Kings 19:11-13)

We search for God and desire his presence but we think it will be a certain way when we discover Him. Elijah found God in a quiet whisper. We may find him in the same way. In the quietness of our life, He comes. Will you welcome His presence? "He is not far from each one of us." (Acts 17:27 )
