Workcamp beautifies neighborhood
Aug 2, 2008
SAN ANTONIO – Teens gathered from six local congregations to paint houses in this year’s San Antonio Workcamp which took place July 27-30. Teens met each morning at MacArthur Park Church of Christ to prepare for the day’s work. Since its inception about a decade ago, the San Antonio Workcamp has painted about 100 homes. This year they painted eight.
Students came from MacArthur Park, Sunset Ridge, San Pedro, New Braunfels, Northside and Northwest congregations. It was hosted by the MacArthur Park congregation which served as a meeting place both in the mornings and in the evenings. The evening activities included a meal, worship and a slideshow of the day’s events.
The Summer Singers from Oklahoma Christian were special guests on Wednesday night for the finale.
What’s the best part of Workcamp? According to Deryk Pritchard, Northwest youth minister and one of this year’s organizers, “it’s getting to know the homeowners and building a relationship. That makes it all worth while.”
